Bach-a-Thon 2024

We are excited to kick off our annual virtual Bach-a-thon! These events have been great fundraisers for our scholarship fund, and with your participation I am sure we can make 2024’s program just as successful. We will send plenty of reminders but hopefully this message provides you with all the information you need in one place.

SCHEDULE

  • Sunday, February 4: deadline to submit pieces and lists of performers

  • Sunday, March 3: deadline to receive recordings

  • Sunday, March 17 at 2 pm: PREMIERE!

STEP ONE: PROPOSING PIECES AND LISTS OF PERFORMERS (DO THIS NOW!)

  • Complete this short form to submit your choice of piece. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4.

  • Since this is a virtual event, we welcome submissions from your organist friends living beyond Portland. And we DEFINITELY welcome submissions from any organ students you have – so please spread the word!

  • It will be first come, first served for specific pieces. If someone has already proposed the piece you want to play, I’ll contact you to encourage you to choose a different piece – so there’s definitely a benefit in getting in there early.

  • Also, you are welcome to offer more than one piece, but be aware that we may need to make cuts if necessary to keep the run time within three hours.

  • Selections DON’T have to be on the organ. Piano, instruments, vocal solos are all welcome.

STEP TWO: RECORDING YOUR SUBMISSION

  • If you need any help finding an instrument to use, or with recording equipment, contact Matt Smith, Subdean, at msmith215@gmail.com.

  • Record the video of your performance. Here are some tips on recording video.  Need assistance? Reach out!  We can help!

  • Record a brief intro to your performance separately from the performance itself.  Tell us who you are, where you currently play (if you do), something about the instrument you are playing, and maybe a little about why you chose the piece.

  • I would also appreciate receiving brief information in writing about the organ you play (where located, specs, what sample set you’re using if digital), to include this in the broadcast.

STEP THREE: UPLOADING YOUR SUBMISSION
